Care

A traditional southern hand smocked - hand embroidered dress - customized chiffon Swiss dot rose fabric adorns the outer layer with the finest woven mint on the inner layer, followed by a 3rd layer of sheer lining. Button closure in the back. This dress is ideal for Sunday School or church. A relic of a bye-gone era brought back to life to be cherished for generations. This one is for your petite keep trunk and to be passed down generations. Heirloom quality and reasonably priced. This started as a personal project as I wanted my daughters to have this dress! After sourcing the custom chiffon fabric with this specific blue rose Swiss dot print - the cost to do so was not reasonable for the fabric quantity required to purchase (customized chiffon fabric). Opening this as a pre-order is the only way I could have these made for my daughters as I wanted to match Jenny’s dress in the strictest way!!

I could go on and on about this dress and the weeks it took to recreate the chiffon Swiss dot rose print fabric but I’ll stop! It’s an obsession of all things traditional and southern that drove the recreation of this treasured dress, from a movie I simply cannot watch without a tear in my eye. Especially the precious childhood scenes of young Forrest and Jenny!

To protect your clothes from being damaged and preserve their heirloom quality, please follow the care instructions below. Our hand-smocked garments are crafted with delicate embroidery and fine stitching, so proper care will keep them soft, vibrant, and beautiful for years to come.

Use a Dye Trapping Sheet: Always add a Shout Color Catcher sheet (or similar dye-trapping sheet) into the wash. It acts as a magnet for loose dye floating in the water before it can settle into the light background fabric.

Cold Water Only: Heat loosens set dyes in cotton embroidery floss. Wash in cold water only using the delicate or hand-wash cycle, or wash gently by hand in a sink.

Bleach-Free Detergent: Choose a gentle, mild detergent. Avoid harsh stain removers, optical brighteners, or bleach directly on or near the smocking plate.

Never Soak or Leave Wet: This is where most color bleeds happen. Do not let smocked items sit in a wet sink or damp inside the washing machine drum. The moment the cycle ends, remove the garment immediately.

Air Dry Immediately: Lay the garment flat on a clean, dry white towel or hang it to dry away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Do not tumble dry in hot heat.

Dry Clean Optional: While following these washing steps is recommended, professional dry cleaning is also safe for this garment.
